Curriculum Leadership Academy

Here at CVEDC, we have brought leaders together for many years now, with cohorts of new and aspiring Vermont educators with a common purpose. We offer graduate credits for a year-long course that brings them the state’s expertise in the areas they want to learn more about.

Why Curriculum Leaders? Our educational service agency was the brainchild of the regional curriculum leaders who saw the great need for collaborative professional learning. There are some jobs (particularly in central offices) that can be very isolating. Curriculum Directors are the one and only person who has this role in a district and it encompasses so much more than any role one might have had in the past. You are writing grants, working with building-based leaders on in-service planning, perhaps hiring instructional coaches, running curriculum meetings (perhaps in a content area that is not your area of strength) and you are learning while flying the plane. You might even be expected to act on behalf of the superintendent at a board meeting. New mandates might fall under your domain. You might even somehow now be in charge of ELL coordination, or the technology department. How do you choose who is on what team? How do you leverage your assets to bring about the best results for kids?

Having experienced curriculum directors and guest presenters help you through the process in a safe and supportive environment can make the difference in success. This is a great opportunity if you are new in the role, or if you are considering the role. Perhaps you are a coach who is asked to step into this role from time to time. We knew that this resource was needed for people who want to strengthen these skills. This particular cohort meets five times throughout the year, offers 3 graduate credits, includes Michael Fullan’s Deep Learning: Engage the World Change the World and even includes meals - and doesn’t start until later in October. So sign up! Led by Megan Grube (GISU) and Violet Nichols (SBSD).
