Dr. Kateri Thunder brings evidence-based math interventions and brain research to the conversation.

With over 100 participants at the Dr. Kateri Thunder sessions last month on Evidence-Based Interventions and Brain Research in Math Instruction, the room was buzzing with great ideas, questions and research. There were great conversations about cognitive load theory. We looked at the research and examined our practices.

Our monthly intersessions start this Thursday with great resources, videos and tools which are all part of our learning modules. One participant noted, “I have learned that cognitive load theory involves being aware of how to chunk math information so that students can concentrate and attend. Teachers should provide no more than 4 pieces of information at a time so that it does not overload students (sometimes even less).” We are looking forward to spending a year with our math interventionists from around the state.
