Please Note New Dates: June 27 & 28, 2023
Presented by: Kayla Johnson,ELL Consultant, Marina Brzostoski and Christine Sealey, EWSD ELL Teachers
Target Audience: Multilingual and all Educators Grades PreK-12
This two-day workshop incorporates the lessons learned from CVEDC’s 2018 workshop with Dr. Andrea Honigsfeld around Collaboration and Co-Teaching. Having implemented this model in EWSD, our presenting team wants to share their strategies for designing lessons that support their ELL students. Co-Planning with multilingual and Classroom Teachers has been a critical factor for student success.
June 27th
On the first day participants will dive deeper into multilingual programming in their respective buildings. This will include learning about accommodating the needs of English Language Learners while considering their cultural backgrounds and other important factors as a part of creating culturally-sensitive classroom environments. Finally, participants will gain an understanding of the WIDA levels and Key Uses of Academic Language and how to include them in lesson plans. ELL programming will be evaluated and discussed through the lens of collaboration and co-teaching/co-planning models presented in the Dove and Honigsfeld Textbook.
June 28th
The second day will be dedicated to learning how to include ELL strategies and target vocabulary into lesson plans and assessing newcomers. Participants will then be given time to collaborate with an ELL teacher/presenter or their teaching team to develop lesson plans that include language and content goals and strategies to accommodate ELLs in their classrooms.
