Dr. Sarah Lupo has been working with Vermont literacy and classroom teachers and interventionists on strategies for assessing students and interventions that are specifically designed for these grade levels. Many participants realized that their systems of intervention support would benefit from her expertise as schools redesign them for improved literacy outcomes for their upper grade students.
In this session, participants will extend their learning about adolescent literacy intervention in order to learn how to:
• use assessment data to create learner profiles to identify the focus of literacy intervention for secondary students
• determine the big picture of literacy intervention needs for the school
• build a school-wide system for literacy intervention, including supplemental intervention and disciplinary supports that aligns with research and are appropriate for adolescent learners
• assess the efficacy of intervention, including what type of data to collect for literacy intervention
• determine exit and entrance criteria using this data
*Each team will have their own 30-minute virtual session with Dr. Lupo in late May or early June to review their specific plans around intervention systems and school-wide supports.
